vanishing CD/DVD drives
hello
i am trying to resolve a problem i have with my copy of Windows XP home edition. for some reason my Windows no longer recognises the CD and DVD drives that i have on my computer, despite they being the one that i have been using for over a year, the ones that came with the computer and XP in fact. i uninstalled norton utilities 2001 and ghosted my machine (using Ghost 8) and while the drives where there the next time i went to use them they were gone from My Computer and i can find them under the device manager. the only things done to the computer were to install the Windows security update and to add a new scanner which was running with the windows drivers only as i couldn't use my CD to install the drivers. i then re-imaged my machine to the last ghosted image and installed the drivers for the scanner and the windows update again and again after a restart the CD and DVD drive were gone. the drives are booting ok just not showing up in windows or device manager, and XP won't let me reinstall them
why is it so!!!!
