xp login screen... gone!?!?
Hey there, I have a problem... (obviously or I wouldn't be posting in here)
My login screen disappeared one day. I now have a small box that pops up that requires you to type in your user name and then password. Just like ME from what I remember of it. Here's what happened...
One day I decided I wanted a cool theme for my computer and dl'ed a Quake 2 theme. My luck, it was infested with trojans, etc. It also changed my login screen to a Quake 2 pic. After I cleaned my computer of all those lovely trojans, I uninstalled the Quake 2 theme which was supposed to set everything back to normal. Well, it didn't put back the login screen. I'm at a loss trying to set it back to the default login screen. It's there in the original folder it's supposed to be under... C:/Windows/system32/logonui.exe... But... it's still not loading... I'm at a loss to why it isn't loading and am looking for a fix. I would give you more information and if you think it would help, ask me what you want and I'll try and get that info to you. Thanks in advance!
Edit - Quake 2 login screen is gone now... Just clarifying

Hmmm... No replies as of yet but neither have a bunch of people that have posted threads since my threads. More info on my computer might spark some responses.

Coz, did you try to force Windows XP theme for whole computer to see if the login Screen would change? have to tried changing it in Control Panel / User Accounts / Chnage the Way Users log on or Off / Use the Welcome Login Screen (put a check mark there)
cheers

I just tried what you suggested and they both don't work. It was checked in the control panel when I went in there and to be sure, I unchecked them and applied changes and then changed it back. Still no welcome screen. I might have a corrupted logonui.exe.

Ah ha! I found a program on the web that actually targeted corrupted logonui's and fixed it back to default. Thanks for your help though! My problem is now resolved.

I don't think the file itself got corrupted , I think the registry associated to it may have been altered.
cheers

Yeah, I searched around and found this...
http://logonloader.danielmilner.com/
There is a link on that page that says "Logon loader Revovery tool" (lol, yeah, recovery is spelt like that on the website ) I used that program to fix it. I then dl'ed the logon loader program and customized my logon screen. Now I have a nifty dragon on my logon.

They have even reformatted and it didnt change. Has anybody else had this persistent problem? If so, do you know how I can fix it?
