Computer shuts down

Hi,hope someone can help with this one.

I have an hp pavilion,running windows xp.(home)

For the past several months it has been shutting down
for no reason at all.No error message.Nothing,it just goes off
on its own.
It always starts right back up after I start it,but after awhile it will shut power off again.

Please help!
Thanks,Betty

You know, I've heard of a macro bug that did that. I dunno, maybe that's what's wrong. If I were you, I'd Virus Scan AND Adware Scan.

Check your Windows XP Power options

Check your Windows XP Power options as well
Are you using a desktop computer or a laptop

Click start Button
Click Settings
Click Control Button
Click Power Option

Check all your desktop power settings :
Make sure to set your desktop to :
Turn off monitor = never
Turn off hard drive = never
system standby = never

Make sure the you uncheck Hibernate support.
Click the advance tab
and double check the setting there as well.

If your setting are correct then check your surge protector.
I had a situation like this about a year ago where my surge protector was going bad. I tested the power being sent to my pc
by plugging it directly into the wall outlet and my system did not shutdown any more. I plug it back to the surge protector and minutes later it shutdown my system.

I ended up replacing the surge protector and My problem went away.

Just a thought...
