Multimedia Audio Controller (realtec AC'97)

Hopefully Bookworm can help me on this one.

Like the many other threads my sound isn't working after I formatted windows xp home edition 2002 onto my acer aspire. ( I had this problem the last time I formatted this computer and forgot what file I used.)

I need the driver for my soundcard. I've already tried one driver which was called the realtec AC'97 driver and now I get an explanation mark next to it. (I'm guessing because its the wrong one) and I didn't set a system restore point so I no longer see the other devices drop down menu with multimedia audio controller and the video thing which had question marks and explanation marks. I have tried a few drivers with failed attempts at installing them. I've currently got a driver off the acer website which my computer won't reconise in add hardware so I'm not sure what to do with that one.

Heres my results from belarc:

Code:
Operating System Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 (build 2600) System Model Acer Aspire T300 AcerPower System Serial Number: 03473636 Chassis Serial Number: A Enclosure Type: Desktop Processor a 2.60 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 8 kilobyte primary memory cache 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache Main Circuit Board b Board: Acer L4S5MG/651+ Serial Number: 987654321 Bus Clock: 100 megahertz BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD R01-C0 05/23/2003 Drives 40.01 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity 35.06 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space COMBO 48X24-L0 [CD-ROM drive] 3.5" format removeable media [Floppy drive] ST340015A [Hard drive] (40.02 GB) -- drive 0, s/n 5LA7Y6FX, rev 3.01, SMART Status: Healthy Memory Modules c,d 248 Megabytes Installed Memory Slot 'A0' has 256 MB Slot 'A1' is Empty Local Drive Volumes c: (NTFS on drive 0) 40.01 GB 35.06 GB free Network Drives None detected Controllers Standard floppy disk controller Primary IDE Channel [Controller] Secondary IDE Channel [Controller] Display SiS PCI IDE Controller SiS 650_740 [Display adapter] Samsung SyncMaster [Monitor] (15.7"vis, s/n HVAX408827, May 2004) Bus Adapters SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller (2x) SiS PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller Multimedia MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device Realtek AC'97 Audio Standard Game Port Other Devices HID-compliant consumer control device (2x) HID-compliant device (2x) USB Human Interface Device (3x) HID Keyboard Device HID-compliant mouse USB Composite Device USB Root Hub (3x)

And on the side of my computer on stickers it says:

Code:
Aspire: T300 standard P/N: AS.T3101.03WQG W/O: 33005702 S/N: 03473636

I think thats all the information needed. I'd appreciate all help given.
And please help me Bookworm, you seem to be helping everyone else with the same problem.

Acer and ECS the board both show C-Media as the audio driver, the problem is getting Windows to recognise this driver. You have to tell Windows which driver it has to install, and the best explanation of how to do this is here http://www.overclockeddoc.com/

go to Windows Problems & Solutions- look at donald92ducks post, DB-Rocket gives a solution.

Hope this helps
