computer restarts randomly

I installed windows xp home edition onto a computer and everything is fine except the computer restarts itself randomly, it doesn't do it like every 5 minutes sometimes it will take a couple hours but it still does it, and I don't want it to, anyone know what to do?

I sincerely hope you performed a clean installation of XP HE as opposed to an updrade. That will, no doubt, result in random, unwanted issues, somewhere down the line. However, browse to the following link for starters: -

hi i just found some information that may help the only problem is that this error only occurs on windows 2000 so if a windows 2000 was previously installed on your hard drive this could be the answer

Does it only do it when you're using it? Actually at the keyboard? Or even when you're away from it?

Something simple to check is if you're catching the power button (if you have one), on your keyboard while you're typing. Happened to me a couple of times after installing SP3, as my settings had been reset to "Turn off if the power button is pressed", and on my keyboard it's irritatingly right next to the delete key.

Turn it off in Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced Tab.
