System Recovery - missing operating system

OK Im a idiot I know,

I have windows XP home edition on a sony viao pcv-rs221
It came installed with windows xp and other software and I
recieved no disks with the computer.
The HD is partioned C and D
The only disk i have is the recovery disk I made.
OK heres where I messed up!
I wanted to reinstall a program that wasnt working from the recoverydisk.
I stopped the recovery prossess before it ended.
Now when the computer trys to boot, it stops on the first sceen and says (missing operating system.)
When i put the recovery disk in it brings up a box that says
(Insert the recovery CD Vol. 1 and press OK button.
Your computer will restart)
When i do this the CD door opens up and I get the same message.
I found out I can order a different recovery disk from Sony.
My hard drive is partioned with windows and bundled software on drive C
How can I get Windows running again and
Is there a way I can save the files on Drive D?

Any help is appreciated Thanks,Winger

Make sure the BIOS is set to boot from CD first.

Try leaving the computer shut down for 1 minute then boot without the CD.You should get the message 'missing operating system' or 'no disk found' click OK,then put in the disk.

When you made your system recovery disks, how many were in the set ?
