Printer/Scanner Problem With XP Pro

I have just changed my O/S from ME to XP Pro, I done this by means of a fresh installation rather then an upgrade. I have a Genius ColorPage-vivid Pro 11 scanner and an Epson Stylus Color 640 printer. I have downloaded the XP driver for the scanner from the Genius site. This installed ok but is not able to detect my scanner. Epson do not offer an XP driver for the printer but they tell you to use the Windows 2000 driver fo XP. Again this installed ok after warning me that it does not support XP so may give stability problems, but I am not able to print anything nor am I able to do a nozel clean/check from the utilities menu. Normally the scanner plugs into the parallel port of the pc and the printer plugs into the back of the scanner, but for test purposes I have tried each on their own plugged into the pc. Windows recognises the LPT1 port, and I have uninstalled it, rebooted the pc and it is reinstalled ok, but the scanner and printer still do not work. The port settings are at default values as set by Windows, I wouldn't know what to change. Can anyone offer any help or advice as to what can be causing this and on how to cure it.

Cheers
Russ

There may not be much you can accomplish without XP drivers.

Try this....right click My Computer/Manage/Device Manager

Right click teh port it uses in Control Panel then Properties/Port Settings

And check "Enable legacy PNP detections" and "Use any interrupt..."

Reboot and test.

Another thing to try would be to go into your BIOS and change the Parallel Port setting to EPP; actually try this first.

Try to uninstall the scanner and/or printer in the Devicemanager and let XP detect the devices again. Then try to re-install the drivers.

I made the change in the Bios that Grendel suggested and both printer and scanner are now working fine.

Cheers for your help Grendel,

Russ

Printers and/or Scanners do not show up in Device Manager.

They are shown in ControlPanel/Printers and Other Hardware.
