Sound problems after driver update

I have the VIA technologies AC97 sound thingy. LOL sorry. LOL
I was told to update the driver yesterday and since doing so my windows start up music can blow your brains out. It is so loud it can wake the dead. I spent a long time with HP tech support, and they aren't much help with this. I went to the help forum at VIA and they haven't bothered to reply. Seems like they have major problems over there! So, I was finally able to get the setting changed and they finally are sticking with a reboot. But when I start up now I hear a hum....the annoying kind that hurts your ears. After the boot it seems better but if I mute it....its still got this crackle noise coming from the speakers. Never had a day of trouble till the update and wsh I could just undo it. Would system restore fix that? I am thinking it won't. What do you think?? Thanks as always

you could go try to find an older driver and load that one or try reinstalling the new one try this though

go to :contro pannel>sound and audio devices and make shure that your sound card is the selected audio device

one more thing, why did u update the driver it was working wasnt it or am i misunderstanding u ?

If you are using XP you have the option to simply "roll back" the driver. Look under "device manager" > sound > drivers > roll back

Roll back the driver....awesome. I am trying that right now. Very cool thanks. In reply to the other question....Windows update lets me know when I have driver updates as well, I have always updated them. Now I might reconsider it. Or at least wait and see if others are writing in the forum with issues. Thanks all

there is an old saying that applys here: "if it works dont fix it"

u updated thing for necessity or to resolve issues for example to solve a security hole or to fix a problem like a graphix card messing up

good luck
