problems after connecting to the domain

I have a computer that is running Win XP Pro. I had a log in account with a password... of which I do not recall what the user name and password was. I just joined the computer to a domain, and gave each of the users their own user name and password for the domain. When the first user logged into the domain, we noticed that the desktop was totally different. So, I looked for all the applications they were using, as well as documents they used and moved them to the desktop. But, the user says that some of the documents that they had on the desktop are no longer there. I did a search using Windows Explorer on all hard drives, but still did not find the documents.
Also, is there a way that I can copy a user profile/preferences from one persons to another? For instance: christopher logs in with his user name and password, then david logs in with his user name and password. How can I make sure that christopher and david see the same items on the desktop, and connect to the same hard drives.
And another, I have another computer to connect to the domain. How can I be sure that the same desktop I currently see there will show up once I have connected to the domain?
Thanks in advance for all of your help and advice...
Sincerely,
Dave

Welcome to this Forum.
In regards to your first question, when you log in as a new user on a computer, the OS will create a new profile for you and portion of that new profile in your new desktop, that's why you user could not find the applications. (Go into C:\Document and Setting and you will be to see other profiles) , please not that if your new user account does not have the Admin rights and you forgot the Administrator's password that mean you are in big trouble.

Q-2
Further more, there are to type of computer profiles for any given user on a domain environment:
1- User profile
2- Domain profile
you may copy one user's profile to another user's account for local user but there are many complications. Best way of approaching multi user computer is roaming profile, that means every time you login as "Joe Smith" from any computer you will get the desktop setting.

sorry can't elaborate no more (this is a big subject)
