I have Windows XP

Version 2002
Service Pack 1
Norton Antivirus 2003 Profissional Edition Updated
Installed on a P IV 2.8 Machine

The problen is:
When i go to the windows update web page every thing goes normal till i hit the Install Now Button after that the teh download window appears but it stays the same, i mean nothing is being downloaded and it just says Preparing to Download but nothing is downloaded and i wait long time for anything to happen, but still the same.

I tried to clear the Explorer history and delete the temporary internet files but didn't help.
I also tried to enable the ActiveX controls form the internet options security but the problem rmains the same.
I also Uninstalled DAP which i have installed it on my machine.

Can anyone please help me how to slove this problem?

I tried downloading the windows update files one by one and installing them it worled but i need to solve the main problem.

Try disabling Norton before starting the download. I've had problems on several systems getting Windows updates with NAV running.

Windows Update Troubleshooter

Under Problem Downloading/Installing a Software (Non-Driver) item , click Download stops or freezes. The Windows Update - Web Page Dialog window appears but download never starts.

Thanx for everybody

First of all I would like to thank these two nice guys who cares to reply to me.

1- The first reply which tells to disable the NAV didn't work.

2- The second reply was very useful although it didn't work too, but I think the problem is with my IExplorer because when for example I click on any external link in any web page teh IE seemes to hang untill I make it stop and refresh the new opened window.

Would you kindly direct me in how to solve this problem cause I really think that it laies there.

Thanx in Advance

Follow the steps on this page. Scroll down a little to see the "regsvr32" commands and run each one to fix the "blank window or have to refresh to see contents" problem.

Exclamation Probably new problem to Windows Update website

Dear all,

I'm on Windows XP Pro SP1, COMPAQ Presario 2100.

I'm having a problem updating in Windows. Whenever I get into the Windows Update website, it hangs at 'Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software...

Depending on your connection speed, this might take a minute. During this time, you may receive one or more security warnings. Review each security warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click Install or Yes to install the software.'

Nothing happens for a long time. i waited for 30mins, still nothing happens.

Can anyone help me in this issue please?

regards,
Aaron
