Network problems

hi,

I have just networked a laptop and pc together using an ethernet connection between two standard network cards. After running the network connection wizard on both machines everything seems fine, in the network connections option in control panel the status of the network is connected and I am told how long the network has been up and running.

However when I place folders in the shared folder of my PC they are not appearing in the shared folder of the laptop and vice versa. I have checked the sharing properties of the folder and everything seems fine.

What have I done wrong??

Thanks for the help

Hi Longside,

I am afraid you have got the wrong idea of what the Shared Folder does.

The Shared folder is for sharing of files between users on the LOCAL machine, so for example I have a home PC with 3 profiles, one for me, one for my girlfriend, and one for my flatmate. The Shared folder can be accessed by all of them.

ANYWAY, what you need to do now, is map a network drive to the other computer's C: drive or another shared folder.

If you goto Network Places, and search you should see the other computer, but beware firewalls can cause problems when creating your own LAN.
