burn processes failing

i try burning files to dvd-rw 1x's from memorex i can burn any files under 2gb but when i try to burn 3-4 gb onto the dvd-rw's, the burn process always fails at around 50-75%. i am running windows xp pro on a 900mhz 384mb sdram and 80gb computer. i am using at LG GSA-4081B Super Multi DVD Rewriter burner. i have tried nero, dvd decryptor, alcohol 120% all of them have it fail at around half way through but smaller things like under 2gb burn properly. when i click ctrl alt delete, all the processes are from the system except my virus scanner and svchost.exe from local service and network service.
