Installation freezes on restarting...grr...

I'm trying to upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows XP, but when the computer tries to restart, it freezes! It's done this multiple times, but each time is the same...
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

have you tried loading in safe mode ? sounds like a driver or incompatibility problem

I have loaded XP in safe mode and it took forever!! Why would you do this? My problem was bad ram.

Do a fresh install!!! It gets rid of all old crap. Do backup your files as they will be destroyed.

And, while you are at it, partition your drive. If something goes screwy, at least, you won't be left with an empty drive.

Also, as an afterthought, try simmtest or memtest86 to check your ram.
