Tried to install sp2 and got a "failed to extract catalog files" error. This was when installing sp2 onto a working win xp pro sp1 computer; so I did a clean install of xp pro (no service packs). Ran sp2 install again and still get the same error. I confirmed that the sp2 download was not corrupt (verified md5 hash). Also ran the manufacturer's extended hard drive utility to rule out a failing hard drive + did a RAM test + A/V scan. I am installing from an administrator login. P3-750 processor on an abit bh6 board. Web search did not seem to find anyone else having the same problem.. not sure where to start troubleshooting here....
These are the errors that I get. The clean install of win xp pro goes fine. No errors.. activate windows.. okay. But when going to install sp2, I get this error after sp2 runs for a few minutes:
Failed to extract catalog files. Click OK to uninstall sp2 files
<click OK>
Service Pack 2 Installation did not complete. Windows XP has been partially updated and may not work properly.

Hey we are new PC builders and are having this same exact problem with a ASUS P4S800 board.. have tried swapping out everything and done a bios update still does the same thing. Anyone figure out what this is or have any luck yet?
