Help My Xppro Wont Work Bc Of Sp2
ok im using this really crappy solaris computer thats my dads and well about 3 hours ago i installed the sp2 and when it was done i clicked finish so it would restart the computer but i found it odd that it was taking such a long time so i had to manually reboot the computer. WELL the computer boots like normally and shows the toshiba logo and then it goes to a blank black screen with a blinking cursor for about 3 sec. Then the windows XP pro logo pops up and loads and then the black screen shows up for a little to get the the welcome sign in part.
Thats normal until it doesnt reach the welcome part and all it does is show this blue screen for litterally a split second and reboots. it does this cycle again and again and again!
what do i do? im terrified because the computer isnt even mine! PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!
btw i dont have my windows pro cd
why did SP2 do this to this computer?!?!
before this computer had NO problems...

im far from being an expert, compared to some of the wizards on here..i had this trouble once and got round it by tapping the key f8 as the pc loads up.
this brings up a screen with various options on it...scroll down to where it says "start my pc in the last known good configeration"or words to that effect and press enter.
as i say im no expert and if any of the guys on here tell you another way i suggest you take their advice, but it worked in my case

ok so your on another computer. Use it to download some boot disks
www.bootdisk.com
Create a boot disk and see if u can boot with this.
Then if you can get the machine to boot run your spyware and antivirus programs.
But first, unplug your machine. Open the case and check for loose connections such as IDE drive cables and plugs, ensure RAM is properly seated.
If you have problems booting with this boot disk let me know and we can look at other options.
Good Luck!!

hi thanks for all your help but unfortunately this sun machine doesnt have a cd burner. it has a floppy disk drive but my laptop xp pro doesnt, so i think i will do a clean install of windows XP Pro when i get the cd.
how do i do a clean clean installation. i went on bootdisk.com but it only shows you how to do a clean installation if your computer is blank. how do you make your computer blank?

I have the same issue and am in the process of debugging now.
At least with my issue, it's nothing more than incompatibility of SP2 with this machine. It was a fairly basic load before the update, and I ran into the same problem - it was freezing loading the agpdriver, even in safe mode.
I did a complete wipe, reloaded XP and then applied SP2 with the same results, nothing else loaded. SP1 works fine with all the other updates.
It'll be another day or two before I can nail the problem down, if possible. So far this is the only machine with this configuration and the only one giving problems out of 25 loads, 4 configurations.

Hey guys, I know it does not help matters, but never, ever, install a new release of anything on a main, fully functional version of your OS.
Always install it on a 'test' partition...........

This system in question is an Abit AI7 MB, and I found others with the same issue with Abit boards. Some have found a BIOS update fixes the boot problem, I'm trying it now...as soon as I find a floppy to use.

Jazz, I don't need a test partition, that's pointless. The systems I am installing on now ARE the test systems for all the rest. If it doesn't work in the production environment, we need to find the cause NOW, and testing on a test partition doesn't flush out problems.

Get stuffed.
For all the non-rude people - the BIOS update worked, boot continued.
