Is WinXP SP2 a Good thing?

What am I in for !!!!!

Would like to hear if anyone has had success or problems with this patch. I need to rebuild my machine and looks like I will have to install it.

I'm curious why you "have" to install Service Pack 2 ?? I have Win XP Pro with SP 1, but have no intentions of upgrading to SP2 until it's been out a while. My PC ain't broke so I'm not going to "fix it".

If I were you, I'd install all the way to SP1 and then browse the forums and check with others who HAVE installed SP3. Once it's known to be okay (and/or M$ comes out with a bunch of patches and maybe even a SP2a ) then I'd go for it.

It's just that if you are rebuilding, upgrading or making a whole new computer, why add an "unknown" to a new mix ??

Get it up and running reliably with SP1 first.

Thumbs up

SP2 is great for me, the inbuilt security programme works great and my computer seems to freeze less, my vote: yes

Ive heard a lot of positive comments about SP2 speeding your pc up and being more reliable and less of those ...encountered an error messages - and the only negative was that it stopped a program working (IBServer) but for some reason they did a reinstall of it and then it worked fine. Im waiting for it to appear on windows updates for me before i download. Thats if my PC hasn't already started downloading it itself.

Well I thought service pack 2 was very very bad when I upgraded, made my browzing though windows and everything a bit slower, but I reloaded my machine and put on SP2 and it runs great, I dont know why it was soo crappy before (the problems did start when I installed it) but I think its worth getting on a clean install!
