XP install problem

I'm having trouble installing XP Home on a empty HD. I have a 900mhz Chaintech 7AJA2E, VIA KTE 133+686B, Award+ChipAway Virus, Audio AC'97 CODEC, nVIDIA GeForce2 MX400 Video Card, and a Western Digital 30gig HD. All i have hooked up when i try to install XP is the HD, video, mouse, keyboard, CD, and floppy. It goes through the loading of files then when it says preparing to load windows: the screen goes blank for a while and then i get a message that states. STOP: 0x4000008A (0x81AB9B30, 0x81B6E7B8, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Also said something like: a thread was being held in a mutex or something like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ron

Since it is on a bare system, it's a hardware issue.
From what I found it looks to be video card related.

an easy way to troubleshoot install is to take out a dif card ie. NIC or sound or video.... till it goes.

Lightbulb my 2 cents

I hate those errors, and sometimes booting into safemode doesn't help. But, to lay down my 2 cents. Installing XP from say windows 98 sometimes solves that problem...And you have the added benefit of reverting back to windows 98 you just installed 20 minutes before. So at least you can run some diagnostics, or get online for more utilities, info (although you probably have access to another computer).....You can probably rule out a defective video card if it works with 98..or 2000, but I agree with dum dum....take out one card at time....or start with zip and add one add a time the most important rule being...never change more than one thing at a time so you can isolate the problem.
One last question I have though...since you have a western digital hard drive you probably also have the data lifeline utility floppy that came with it. Or you can download it. To be on the safe side, I'd install "easy bios" from the floppy. You can always uninstall it from the floppy if you want to...
