missing network connections and advanced tab

I have a home network with 3 computers connected to a hub.
The primary computer is running on windows xp with ICS enabled.... the network runs fine...accept for this

Network Place is empty....no local area network connection icon....I can't check the status of the ICS because the I have no network connection icon to click on.

the other problem i have is similar....

I want to remove the login screen when I startup windows..

the windows help says to open the USER ACCOUNT MENU in the control and click on the advanced tab....

THERE IS NO ADVANCED TAB....JUST LIKE THERE IS NO NETWORK CONNECTIONS ICON

Any suggestions?

You help is greatly appreciated....

Activate "use common tasks" in system/advanced/performance. the option will be listed on the left.
The start menu can also be set to display network connections.

In user account control panel, click "change an account". You have to disable the guest account as well.

Thanks for your response

I looked, and this option is already checked.

Any other ideas?
