WOW, first issue with SP2 install and I would say it's a MAJOR problem. The PC I installed SP2 onto had some spyware that was ver evident (pop ups and a sex toolbar). I tried to get rid of it as best as i could but i was pressed for time and had to get all SP2 packs installed...WELL, lets just say that it doesnt come backonline anymore, after it installed b/f it comes to the ctrl-alt-del screen to login it just BLUESCREENS me to death....

M$ came out with a statement today or yesterday claiming this sort of thing can happen unless you are spy/ad-ware FREE...UMMMM, thanks for the update now, luckily i have all files on a software and it took 40min to ghost the box but im sure there are plenty of you WHO DONT HAVE GHOST or a 2nd PARTITION with all your data on it JUST IN CASE....

It's just a PITA!

other then that, SP2 is pretty cool...minus the firewall.

May help with XP SP2 Problem

With ref to SP2.
I also left pc on over night and came down to pc trying to reboot, the only way I could stop this was cutting the power. I thought it was something I done, I called Microsoft on 08450902025 and told them of the problem.
They will talk you thought what to do, it is a problem with SP2 not being compatible with other software, one of them being Norton virus scan.
The way they told me to do it was by going into BIOS and changing your boot up to your cd rom, then put in your xp disc and when it boots up from that, then go to recovery, but this dint work for me, the way I done it was set up windows xp again, I didn’t lose anything but it does take longer now to start up.
I do not know if it true but I have heard that the prob with xp sp2 has affected over 1-mil computers.
The above has worked for me but call 08450902025 to find out first.
Hope this helps,
Mark

this is in response to flaco58's post:

"I think I got further once but was asked for a supervisor /administrator password yet have no passwords set on my computer according to info in 'setup'!."

The Console always prompts for administrator password even when no password has been set. Simply press ENTER to continue without typing a password.

Sorry Pip22,
you are right, the same came up on mine even though I did not have a password on the administrator settings, I got hold off the company that made my pc, and they said the some off the info that M/soft was correct, but once you get to window set up page (blue screen) on the recover consol, click on window install, then click on repair.
Regards,
Mark

USB problems after SP2

Having reinstalled XP slipstreamed with SP2, I'm now back to where I was two weeks ago just before my computer refused to boot after SP2.

It now crashes every time I try to install the USB modem, or scanner. I've tried Updating the drivers, but just as the installation is completing, all power is lost, and can only be restarted once the power lead has been removed for about 20 seconds, and USB devices disconnected. Anyone have any ideas?

Athlon 2600XP, Asrock M/board (via chipset), Sagem f@st 800 USB modem.

Hi flaco58,

The only advice I can give you is call Microsoft help line on 08450902025, it is there problem, see if they can help. I found out last night, that apart from losing my help and support file, I've also lost WinZip, so I had to re-enstall that, with ref to losing my help and support file, I spoke to the help line, who said download SP2 again, as I cant put a restore point on the pc I'm a bit iffy on doing this, I am waiting till the XP SP2 CD rom, comes to me in the post, and see if I can only re-enstall the files that are lost,
Mark

Thanks Mark, but, like a lot of peoples, my Windows isn't registered so I assume they'd tell me to get lost!

Good luck with yours

Mark - just realised I'm missing 'help and support' on one system of the two (dual boot). Trying to run SP2 again on top of the slipstreamed installation results in internal error message.
Loss of power on boot up is becoming so random I'm suspecting PSU now.
