I think I have an issue with cookie settings (can't stay logged in or get past ads)

Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 1

ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard, P4C 3.2GHz, 1024MB DDR400 dual channel (linear mode), 36GB WD Raptor SATA drive for OS and apps, two Maxtor 120GB ATA drives in RAID 1 for audio data storage, Matrox Millenium G550 AGP.

My problem is that I am unable to remain logged in on some message boards and other websites. I enter my username and password, and it logs me in. Then when I follow a hyperlink out of that page to another page or to post on the site, I'm logged out. Another problem is that some websites feature ads that are supposed to forward you to their homepage after the ad ends, but instead the ads just cycle endlessly. Even when I click the hyperlink to skip the ad, the ad just replays. I have tinkered with my security and privacy settings for hours. Nothing seems to help.

I deleted all my cookies, and set everything to the lowest possible settings (even things I am afraid to have so unsecure) by setting everything to enable or low safety in the custom settings (and yes I clicked ok and apply lol). I even added the sites I'm having problems with to the trusted sites list, and completely emptied my restricted sites list. Nothing has solved my problem thusfar.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.
