Question XP SP2 AU & Dial-up

I finally got XP SP2 to AU, but I am on Dial-up! Ack So far 46% has downloaded in about 9 hours. (I want to switch to DSL, but that''l have to wait till this is over.)

Does anyone know if it's safe to continue to download at the rate of 2% an hour? I have a great machine, it's the dial-up and the Microsoft AU load!

Also, does anyone know if you can delete a download of SP2 and where to find out how to do it. I EM'd Microsoft and they pretty much say understand their server slowness

Thanks. I like computers, but I'm not a techie brain!

You may want to read up on the problems of SP2 before installing. Do search on google for: XP SP2 problems

There are various articles describing various problems related to SP2.
If you're doing an auto update, cancel it and disable auto update if you are affected by the incompatibilities that SP2 introduces.

SP2 is not a simple patch, it's a complete overhaul.

Even though I have broadband, I still ordered from the following M$ site. The XP SP2 CD and shipping are free of charge: -

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD

If you decide to go ahead with the installation, remember when given the option to archive files, do so. To uninstall XP SP2 read the following MSKBA: -

Thanks Krusher and Jazz!

I'm seriously trying that ounce of prevention stuff.

I'm going to give AU one last shot. It didn't even work yesterday at all. There's another dude on 8-29 with a post about this problem.

You're welcome.

Incidentally, even though I have ordered XP SP2, I will not be installing it on my working puter; only on a test system for evaluation purposes.

XP SP2 is a large addition to the XP family, and, as such, will create/cause problems on a lot of systems, as each and every system is unique. Saying that, a lot of users will, no doubt, not have a problem.

Just don't forget to archive your files when given the option.

Find below some relevant information iro XP SP2: -

Programs that are known to experience a loss of functionality when they run on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer Updated: 8/19/2004 (7.0)

Good luck..................

DON'T DOWNLOAD SP2 AU DIALUP, ORDER THE CD HERE: !!!!!

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/.../sp2/cdorder/en us/default.mspx

This CD is good for the Windows XP Home Edition and Professional per Microsoft. DO NOT USE DIAL-UP AUTOMATIC UPDATE!!! It's a nightmare, and probably won't complete anyway for this! I wouldn't even use it for DHL for this.

I tried to download SP2 on dialup, and it never completed. Good thing anyway, because now I can just leave the dumb half a download alone and install straight from the CD. AS LONG AS THE DOWNLOAD DID NOT INSTALL -- AND THIS IS IMPORTANT -- YOU CAN DO THE CD!!! YOU DO NOT WANT 2 FILES FOR SP2 ON YOUR COMPUTER!!!

I posted the above on another message as this is the exact problem I was having AND Krusher, Jazz, and My Computer Tech solved it. I thought it was worth it to repost it here! Thanks guys!!!
