URGENT: Windows cant start up

maybe try putting the CD in and there should be a repair option

wait for some more ideas though

im using xp on a compaq presario.

xp is pre-installed on the computer, so i have no cd.
i could choose to use system recovery, but that would wipe out all the data, which i want to keep.

i think if you fill out some paper work you can get the CD's mailed to your house

or go online

my friend is able to do that with his sony vaio (but they want to charge him 20 bucks)

You're going to have to reinstall.
You can put the drive in another pc and backup your data.
