Obtaining new IP Address with XP Pro

My Mrs. IE Browser is incredibly slow. She uses window washer at start up, so cache. temp internet files etc are clear. Lots of hard drive space.

Thought that releasing the current ip address assigned to her and obtaining a new one might make a difference. Tried the ME/Windows 98 method (run box -> winipcfg ) to be able to release the ip address and obtain a new one. However, that does not do the trick with XP Pro. We are connected to the internet via Linksys router.

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction with this in terms of properly obtaining a new IP address with XP Pro? Or better yet, if there is a method to getting IE browser back up to speed, would appreciate hearing how.

Your router will be issuing a LAN IP address to the PC.

You need your router to renew the WAN IP Address, you can get into the router configuration by going to http://192.168.1.1/ .

Most excellent, and thankyou.

Turns out a large part of the issue was spy ware. Ad Aware removed a ton of garbage. However, it is handy to have the info you provided.

Many thanks
