Unhappy start-up problems

Hi-

I was hoping someone here could help me out.

I use XP on both of my home computers, but I've recently run into a problem with one. Right after I turn it on it'll check the computer for consistency, after that (it always says there are no errors) it does a physical memory dump, and after that it restarts itself and then gives me the safemode or normal start options.

I've gone through the process several times, but no matter which way I choose to start it in, it does the entire process again- starting with the disk check and then on to the memory dump.

Is there anyway at all I can fix this problem?

Thanks.

Can you actually start the m/c in safe mode ?? If so...Start/All Programs/Admin Tools/Event Viewer.

Thanks for the reply-

No, I can't start the computer at all, even in safe mode. If I choose the safe mode option (or any option for that matter- even "restart with last known good configuration") all it does is check for consistency again and right after that, there's a blue screen that says it's dumping the physical memory. I'm not able to access anything on the computer because of this.

I'm assuming you mean that it repeatedly checks the C-disk for consistency and reports no errors ?? Further assuming that you have not altered the s/w in any way then it sounds like either a virus or a h/w problem.
Do you have a virus application boot disk ?? That could be used to check your boot sector.
