Right click and error...

Hi,

Whenever I right click on any file or folder (let's say to delete) I get a Windows error message. i then have to CTRL Alt and Delete to cancel the process as it's not responding. I am guessing this is a Windows explorer error but do not know how to fix. Anyone got any ideas?

Appreciated

D1.

The error is

'Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'

and this is the 'error signature'

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: shell32.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.2180 Offset: 0005e9ec

You have installed SP2, right?

Try the following post by Miz. Don't forget to disable System Restore prior to running the scans, after the apps have been updated, naturally. You can re-enable System Restore after if you wish to: -

Jazz,

Tried what you suggested. Still doing the same thing. Only does it when right-clicking folders though, not actual files.

Any more ideas?

Thanks

Do you have any Macromedia software installed?

More specifically, Cold Fusion or HomeSite

I had a similar known problem with Windows Explorer, but this one was only associated with Cold Fusion and Homesite. I downloaded the latest update versions and it corrected my problem. I dont think this is related sorry.

Have you tried searching for Spyware? or Virus's, some articles on the microsoft website suggest some spyware causes problems in Windows Explorer (in particular Bonzai [spelling] and Comet Cursor), however, none mentioned your exact problem. Maybe worth a try....

Angry Same Problem, Too

Hi,

I'm having the same problem as Designer1. It's this error when you right-click on a file or folder. It would give you an ERROR SIGNATURE. AppName: explorer.exe, AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: unknown, ModVer: 0.0.0.0, Offset: 01faf5f0. This problem started to occur after I formatted my PC and re-installed XP. During the installation, a problem occur where my RECOVERY CD failed to complete the re-installation and I had to use a different copy of WinXP to finalized the install. The installation went through and I was able to use XP without any problem expect for this RIGHT-CLICK issue. Even after having SP2 installed, the same problem is there. Anyone has a clue on what's going on? Thanks!
