2 ram sticks

Okay.. ive got a problem.. and im quite sure some other people have it as well---

i got a AMD athlon 1900xp+
256 ram 80 gigs gf4 mx 440

because ´my card isnt so good.. i decided to get more speed.. so stole a ram stick (another 256) from my sisters comp... okay all was working pretty neatly..comp worked fast and i was happy .. Because i like action games i also tried it out on them.. and SUPRISE: game crashed always when i was just starting to play (20% game 50% all comp) and 20% it worked fine for hours..so for weeks i tried to solve problem.. thought it could be my drivers, or sound, or overheating.. until finally, i took my ram stick out.. and poof.. problem disappeared... and good old slow comp... so im asking a question:::

any way i can have 2 x ram sticks?

normally you want to use the same brand and speed of ram.
different brands/speeds can produce undesired results. sometimes, even the manufacturing date can have an affect.
even the slot the ram is in can make a difference.
