Corruption File

I went to use the defrag utility that comes with XP on one of my harddrives and I recieved this message.

corruption file in d:\system volume information\_restore{9BAB1OA5-6336-44A7-AEF6-68C295D7BA5D}\RP8

Can anyone tell me what this means, I have no idea.

thanks

That folder/path is used by XP to restore your system to a "Last Known Good" in NT/2K parlance. Try this:

(DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE)

1) Start -> Right-click My Computer -> Properties -> System Restore tab
2) Check "Turn off system restore" or "Turn off system restore on all drives" if you have multiple hd's
3) Click "Apply"
4) Click "Yes" to the message about deleting all existing restore points
5) Click OK
6) Reboot

(ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE)

1) Redo step 1 from above, and this time uncheck the Turn off option
2) Click "Apply"
3) Click OK

Try that out and see if it works for you. Let me know how it goes.

Corrupt File

I did what you suggested and then tried to run the defrag again but I got the same error. My comp also tries to chkdsk almost everytime I turn the computer on. Any suggestions on this?

Send a message via AIM to setec
Try this at your own risk:

Disable System Restore on D:

Then gain access to your System Restore Folder:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;309531&

Then delete the System Restore folder on your D:

try running defrag now, reboot if you want before this.

Reenable System Restore on D: and it will re-create the system restore folder with the permissions turned off again to protect the folder.
