startup delay!

hey guys, this is my first post here, and i have a problem ...

im running winxp sp2, and offlate, i've been noticing that after i log on to windows, the system just stops running for like a minute. during this time i can see my wallpaper, the icons and the taskbar, but i cant click on start button and none of the programs are loaded; the mouse shows busy when i move over the taskbar.

finally after a long wait i hear my hdd whirring, and the system loads up, but half the things which were suppsed to, dont [power meter, volume control, graphic card manager etc] even if i try to open them manually.

would anyone know whts causing this? thanks in advance ...

btw, i have norton AV2004 and zonealarm integrity desktop, both of which load up for sure ... and my laptop is spyware-free ...

and i just noticed, if i log off and log back on, evrything loads up normally ... ????

Norton Antivirus 2004 is causing that slowdown.

My computer used to boot in 17 seconds.

At that time I used Norton Antivirus 2002.

I upgraded to Norton Antivirus 2004 and my boot time is about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes.

Very slow on the boot. However, it doesn't seem to slow down the computer after it is booted.

i don't think thats the problem ... because norton came pre-installed with the laptop, and this problem started happening only recently .... i can't seem to relate it to any major software changes in my system ... and when u talk about boot time, ur hdd's prolly whirring away, but for me, during that 1 minute, everything just stops ... although i can move my mouse around ... tahnks for the suggestion, though the problem still isnt solved ...
