unable to ping,telnet and smtp

i recently had a problem with my computer (running xp) not recieving any data even though my internet connection was fully active.

i reinstalled XP and now i can recieve data but only http.
i am unable to ping, telnet, ftp and send mail via smtp.
everything times out.
i can ping localhost fine however.

i have tried ipconfig /renew and all of the other ipconfigs but that dosnt work.

any ideas?

Are you using a firewall, router, and/or proxy server that could be misconfigured and possibly preventing you from doing this?

as soon as i had reinstalled windows i installed zone alarm, but when i noticed the problem i uninstalled zone alarm because i thought that was what caused the problem. but the problem continued.
I also have the windows firewall dissabled.
i dont have any other firewall software, routers or proxies, my machine is a stand alone computer with a dirrect internet connection.

also sp2 is not installed.

Try installing SP2, maybe that will fix it. I have had stranger things happen.

It sounds almost like your TCP/IP protocol is damaged. Try removing it then, reinstalling it.
