Windows XP SP2 Hardware Issue

After I installed SP2 on my desktop I noticed my CD drive stopped working. Everything seems OK until I insert a CD. Then the system virtually freezes. After a pretty long wait, sometimes the CD displays the folders and files but trying to open a file causes the system to freeze. I tried 3 different brands of CD drives with the same result. Can it be my mainboard or bios? I'm using an ASUS P4B533. Unstalling SP2 fixes the problem. Anyone have the same problem or have any ideas?

It's not the cd drive, it's your recording software namely
Nero's INCD and Easy CD Creators DirectCD even if you removed them you may still have problems

Your response is very much appreciated. I don't have Nero or CD creator installed but I do have DVD X COPY so I guess any CD/DVD software might cause this. Interestingly, when I went to the link you provided, I received none of the messages listed, the PC simply becomes unresponsive. Sometimes I can get it back by unloading the CD but most times I have to remove the CD and reboot. I noticed that if i reboot with a CD in the drive, the PC will freeze up then as well. Anyway, I plan to try loading SP2 again and delete the registry entries specified in the link. Again, thanks for the reply.
