Applying changes to "Display Properties" directing in the registry of XP

Hi,

I run an NT4 Domain Server, with over 400 clients, some of them Win2000 and some WinXP. I have been working on a changeable, yet uniform environment for each user, ressetting when the user logs on, irrespective of what changes he/she made last session.

I have successfully written various things into the registry from a login script on the NT Server. I cannot fathom, however how to apply certain changes, namely the background. The changes are all in place when the user logs in, they simply have to get "Display Properties" up and 'Apply' or 'OK' the changes.

My question is how do you make and apply these changes from the beginning of the session? Is there a 0 that needs to be changed to a 1 somewhere? It is probably something that straight forward.

Many thanks for any help

I'm not sure how to make the change in the registry. Have you tried group policies? I know you can make this change there. Try making the change with "Group Policies", then go to the registry and check out what changes were made. You may want to do a before and after print screen so your sure what changes were made. Then you can write a script to do this on all the other machines.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have used polices until recently. The thing is, you see is that with the new XP clients, initial logon takes an age (literally, 5 mins sometimes), whilst XP creates local user settings. Without the policies, this problem is irradicated.

I have tried creating a .REG file as suggested. The changes are indeed made, but the problem is still there that the changes seem to be required to be "Applied" by the user. The question is, what happens when the user clicks 'OK' in 'Display Properties'. There must be something changed somewhere. Where is it?
