Upgrading hard drives questions on XP

I use my Windows PC for creating and maintaining

a web site using NetObjects 8, for my son's real

estate business. I utilize digital photography

using Nikon Capture 3.2, brochure creation in

PageMaker7.01 and PhotoShop7, and data processing

using WordPerfect 2004.

I am upgrading from 20 Gig to 120 Gig HDs, 2

each. Should I Slipstream to SP1 and will it save

disk space?

What follows is a Partition layout for 2 Maxtor

120 Gig ATA Ultra DMA 133 drives. Other hardware:

ECS L4VXA2 MB, Pentium 4 2.4, 1 Gig memory.

Disk 0 Size Designation

C: XP_Swap 4 Gigs Primary
D: OSPrgrms 17 Gigs Extended
E: Data 25 Gigs Logical DOS
F: HndyBkUp 17 Gigs Logical DOS
G: Ghost_OS 17 Gigs Logical DOS
H: XP_BkUp1 34 Gigs Logical DOS
I: XPARS_DL 5 Gigs Logical DOS

Disk 1

J: PScratch 7 Gigs Extended
K: XPARS2 3 Gigs Logical DOS
L: XP_BkUp2 34 Gigs Logical DOS
M: Ghostmp 51 Gigs Logical DOS
N: Ghostmp2 8 Gigs Logical DOS
O: Ghost_OS 18 Gigs Logical DOS

Portable Media

P: CD_RW
Q: DVD_RW
R: ZIP100

This number of drives allows for quickly

defragging drives that need it most often. Swap

files are positioned as the first partition on

each physical disk to enhance performance. I will

have a 3"x5" card showing an index of the drives

next to the monitor.

How do I install XP to include SP1 with a minimum

of diskspace. You know, all of those extraneous

files that fill up the hard drive, backups for

the original files, etc. I realize that this is

what SP2 elimainates but I am skeptical of having

problems associated SP2. No SP2 for me at this

time.

I am open to suggestions and/or changes from

computer savey Pros on this forum. TIA for your

ideas.

Extended partitions don't have drive letters. Drive letters are assigned only to the logical partitions within the extended partition.

I think if you’re installing Windows XP on one computer, it’s not worth the time it takes to create a “Windows XP Slipstream” disk. That’s just my opinion. But if you are installing Windows XP on several computers, I think it’s worth the time and effort. Try this Web site, I think they do a great job explaining Slipstreaming and give Step-by-Step procedure: http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstream_01.htm
