-I'm 16, I'm clueless on this problem please someone help!-

Hey thx for opening this up to see if you can help. I just got my computer conected to the internet via a router from a downstaires computer to my one upstaires a month ago. I was downloading some updates that i needed a security stuff, I kept on getting blue code screen error messages come up. So i restarted my computer and started downloading again. This happened maybe 3 - 4 times, but then the last time it happened i switched my computer off and went to turn it on, but it didn't work no bios, just a blank screen.

The computer has been built for me by a very good friend, who no longer is in that line of work. I had a spare monitor, so i tried that. Still nothing. I found out the suppliers of my motherboard, because at that time, i suspected that. It was tested twice, it was fine, apart from they found a small fault with the memory so that was replaced and I brought another stick of memory to run the games i have. Also i brought a new Graphics card, they also reset the BIOS to factory settings. So returning i thought it all was going to work nice and sweet.

NOPE same problem! A local computer shop manager, advised me to try and bootup, with the bare essentials and slowly add on things like the Hard Drive, Floppy Drive, CD-ROM drive and Sound Card. So i unplugged everything and i only had the Graphics Card (old one), motherboard, PSU. Success! This time BIOS worked kind of.... So i put everything back on, but this time: the computer seemed dead. The PSU fan wasn't going round, neither was the processor fan, nor the case fan. The computer seemed lifeless. But power seemed to be still getting to the monitor, but that was it. Of course the speakers were ok since they are off a separate source.

I tried my new graphics card, same thing happened. I then thought it must be the PSU, since that was the only thing (apart from the sound card) Which hadn't been changed or tested! That came today Wednesday, September 15th 2004. I put that in plugged everything in, the switch on the back was on, went to boot up... nothing!

People please help, this computer is tearing my hair out, it's really getting me down, for a Studant i have paid out a lot for this computer. Please if there is any one who thinks they know what's wrong please please tell me.

Could it be possible that the switches have a lose/broken connection? Is there something i'm doing wrong? Please reply. Many thx for Reading
Kindest Regards
Chris

I've been there my friend. The exact same thing happened to me. First it's obvious the Power Supply is fine. What might be wrong is that your CPU, fan, or heatsink might not be seated properly. Try reseating your CPU, fan and heatsink again and add a fresh coat of heat compound (I think that's what it's called.) It took me 6 months to fix my newly built computer! The only thing that was wrong was that my CPU fan was on backwards! So check that also since computer shops never check that! If that doesn't work I would try taking it apart and putting it back together. http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/index.htm

re: gonzo90017

Well thank you very much for that suggestion! When the computer shop tested my motherboard, they handled it by its CPU fan. They may of removed it, so if that was the case then that would be the reason.

I'm guessing at first I had a memory fault, because BIOS came up when we romved everything the first time. But then after the computer shop had worked on it we couldn't get anything. But this is only a guess, i'll keep this thread posted when I try it if that was the problem.
Many Thx for your help!
Chris

Ps/ any other suggestions always welcome!
