HDD Error Press F1 to setup

I have a FUJITSU MPG3204AT E HDD and at startup (BIOS) i get HDD error Press F1 to setup. if i restart and go into bios ( american trends AMIBIOS) it says no pri drive installed, and have to install myself. real pain in the butt. has anyone come accross this recently.

I am running winxp pro

AMD proccessor Duron 800MHz

128MBs RAM

FUJITSU MPG3204AT E HDD

also forgot to mention a beep code that comes up after error a quick 2 beeps then a pause then 1 beep. also i can get the thing to run after a while if i go into to the bios and keep changing the drive specs, after it fails a few times i can get the bios to set the peramiters. but about an hour after while in xp my comp restarts automatically. real pain in the butt!!!
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

The BIOS beeps indicate RAM problem, while the hard disk
parameters having to be repeatedly entered in the BIOS indicates
the mobo CMOS battery needs changing.

You've got a buggy Drive. The drive itself and the Hard disk controller are running at 2 different speeds.

2 workarounds

1.)
Got to the link below and download the utility below change to ATA 33
[ Ultra-ATA ] Change Mode Utility.
http://www.fel.fujitsu.com/home/v3__...4&inf=swr&wg=0

2.) change the cable that connects the hard disk to the controller to the 40-channel cable that is used with ATA 33 drives. When you do this, the drive can run at ATA 33 speeds

The link below is to microsoft's site although it shows win 2000
winxp has the same problem with the drive

New battery, and RAM was tested and is fine.

If the other fixes aren't working
Your hard drive is failing if you can get it to work long enough back up your personal files
