Exclamation problem with xp pro and drivers

I had my laptop recovered last week since my XP is not loading. That's done. So, when it was finally working I realized that I still had to re-install the video, graphics & modem drivers. When I tried installing the video driver, it didn't work, probably because the driver I had was the wrong one (i'm guessing it was for my desktop, which is xp home). So I tried to use the laptop for a while, without connecting to the internet, without reinstalling the drivers. Then suddenly when I was starting it up one morning, something went wrong. The desktop wasn't showing, but i can hear the start up sound of xp. All I can see in my screen is WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL. The one where the system is loading the OS. When I tried to start up using safe mode, a list of words came out, something similar to

blah...blah..mode(0)partition(1)c:system32/drivers.... blah.. blah..

I can't roll back the driver i installed because I can't even get to my desktop. My laptop is Toshiba Satellite 2400 series. The video driver is S3 SuperSavage IX, and I can't find any site where I can download it.

what's wrong? How can I fix this?
Can somebody please help me?

Try using VGA mode instead of safe mode.

Try restarting ur laptop again and see what will happen, if the problem persists, and if u have no choice, then might as well reformat ur laptop again. Insert ur boot disk again. BUt try to look for other solutions first, because i dont really suggest to keep on booting ur computer

hi flipgoddess. albert arayata sent an email about your problem. can you contact me through my site? www.gaildelacruz.com. just use the contact form in the "Train Pass" link.

you can try choosing "last known good configuration." there's a chance it might work. if it goes to the desktop, do a system restore. choose a date when you're sure it's working well.

you know what... if you really want to solve this problem fast, just do a CLEAN reinstall. DO NOT OVERWRITE YOUR EXISTING OS. use the DEBUG code (if don't have it, tell me and i'll give it to you) to reset your drive to its default settings, plug-in the windows xp cd (choose extended NTFS at the format screen), and just reinstall your software. that is, if you really don't have critical files in it. there are some who don't think DEBUG is necessary, but if you want to be 100% sure to wipe out your drive, this is the best way to go.

once you do that, windows should be using the native drivers. if it gives you a crappy resolution, that's when you'll have to reinstall the video drivers, but it will definitely show your desktop regardless of which.

portables usually have a software recovery cd and windows installation disk. do you still have those?

just contact me if you have questions. i think i encountered something like this when i was working as tech support.
