Angry No internet.

I have run into this a couple of times now. My problem is I CAN ping the ISP, gateway...etc, but I cannot get the machine online.

I've tried resetting my TCP/IP with the "netsh int ip rese" CMD. That was my last attempt.

I have a feeling that it might have something to do with corrupted port settings, however I don't know where or how to change these settings.

Any help would be appreciated!

Dave

Dave, Welcome to this Forum with your second post.

The TCP stack on you net workcard binding is hosed, all you need to do is to un-install your network card and reboot the system and reinstall the card...that should fix your issue.

cheers

Thanks, but I already attempted that. Still no luck!

Is there anyway to reset all ports?

I'm not aware of a command to reset ports and I don't think there is one..... Once again I think you issue is TCP stack related.... Windows XP is notorious for that.... even after removing the NIC from the system and rebooting, it will bring back the Old setting instead of a brand new TCP STACK ....I guess if you have another NIC you could slap that in to see what would it respond.

cheers

Still no luck!

I disabled the onboard Ethernet controller in CMOS and rebooted. Then I shutdown Windows after verifying the E Card was no longer there. I then installed a new NIC in one of the PCI slots. Windows detected it and installed the new NIC but the same problem persests.

Is there anything else I could try. I'd hate to reload over this issue!

This may not be your problem but since you didn't mention it, the first thing to check when you can ping but cannot browse is DNS.

Check that the DNS assigned to your PC is responding (ping it) and can resolve hostnames (ping something common like google.com to see if it resolves to an IP address). Since you can ping the gateway, I highly doubt that it is any kind of TCP stack issue on your local PC. The most common cause for this type of problem is an offline DNS server or routing issues at the ISP.

OK I can ping google.com. 4 packets sent, 4 packets recieved.

If I can ping using the name, what's stopping my internet connectivity???

What you actually have to ping is the IP address of the DNS server itself. But if you were able ping google.com and got a response, the DNS server is probably not the problem. You can go to a dos prompt and type "ipconfig /all". This will give you some info on your adaptor and IP, gateway, dns etc. settings.

I resoled the issue! Spyware called New.net was my trouble here!

I had to run 2 scans. One with Spybot and the other with Adaware. Once removing the offending spyware in the registery, all was good and I'm back online!

Thanks for your help everyone!
