defrag

My disk defrag has stoped working,it appers but dose'nt do anything. Also when i start the comp i have to press a second button with my name on it before i can go any further,where's before it went straight thru to the desktop.

Hi ,have you tried diskeper lite it defrags quicker than windows defrag. i use it all the time no problems and its free google it and download.Have you ran any adware progs if not get spybot search and destroy and adaware this may help your start up problems hope this helps

Though I am unsure about your defrag problem, I had the other problem with having to click on my name when I started up my PC. It seemed to come out of nowhere as well. To fix it go to Start, then Run and type control userpasswords2 then in the dialog box that appears, select your name and uncheck the box that says users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. That should work for you.

ok, did the defrag problem happen out of the blue or did you install something just before the problem started, update anything? add new hardware? do you have any programs like easy cd creator 5, go back, any kind of backup utilities just installed?
try this, turn the computer off. when you hit the power button to turn it back on tap the F8 key constantly untill the boot options screen comes up, select safe mode. once it boots up try to defrag in safe mode and if it works it is a software problem....you have something starting up with windows that is causing it. this could be a driver for hardware(have you updated lately?) or spyware or even a virus, a good on-line scan at panda or trend is a good thing to do just to make sure(even if you have the very best anti virus software) nothing is fool proof. adaware or spybot, when updated usually find 98% of problems with spyware.

Did you add a second account to your computer? If you have one user account, windows will log on and go straight to desktop. But if you add another account you get the logon Icons.

Just get Diskeeper -- it's so much better than the built-in defragger, you won't miss it anyway.
