Nero causing various stop errors?
Hello all, I am having a problem where nero app's, and only nero app's, are causing a BSOD, with various stop errors. My latest are:
The latest was of the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LES_OR_EQUAL variety...

Any idea what may be causing these errors? Should I simply try another app than Nero? I am not using any form of directcd or incd. Thanbks in advance all for the help! It only happens when using nero, sometimes during use, and sometimes even after closing nero, working on other things, and then attemptiong to shut the computer down, and the voila', we have another BSOD. If I don't run nero, than we don't have any problems...

This bsod has several possibilities...
It could be bad ram or using mixed brand ram modules.
There may also be a device driver conflict or the driver is trying to access a restricted part of mem.
short story:
I had this bsod with a particular app...the app worked fine until i shutdown or rebooted, then windows would crash right after saving the settings. removing the app resolved the bsod.
I did some diggin and found the popular answer to be bad ram. i refused to believe this and eventually reinstalled windows(clean) and the app has worked fine since then.
most likely it was remnants of an uninstalled app, as rarely does anything uninstall completely.

Hmmm. I'm trying to think of other programs I may have used that could be causing this...maybe I'll just need to do a reinstall since I have tried and uninstalled quite a few programs at this point since my last OS install...thanks for the advice!

I'm almost positive it's nero's incd that is causing your problems
IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP: 0x0000000A can be caused by Nero InCD 4300. A side effect is that, very strangely, you cannot boot in safe mode, but you can boot in normal mode. You can try to update InCD to the latest version. There are conflicting reports about version 4303. If you keep having the problem, uninstall the program altogether.
You don't need incd for nero to function properly

That's interesting. I did remove it, but I am wondering if it is still running behind the scenes somewhere even though it is not showing in the add/remove programs in the control panel. I knew it had to do something specifically with nero, after all, why would it only error out when using nero's apps?
Thanks for the info!

I'm also having bug checks/blue screens precipitated by Nero 6, and I have not and do not have INCD installed, nor anything from Roxio or other ripping or burning software on board. I've even been able to get Nero to instigate a blue screen from safe mode! The pattern of the stop messages suggests a driver conflict. My 8-month-old desktop is plenty capable w/1 GB Ram, a raid 0 volume for primary drive and a seperate back up hard drive, and 3.2 Ghz P4 processor. I've had Nero about 4 months and the problem started with infrequent bug checks while editing a wav file or other audio editing. To date I've not had a problem while actually ripping or burning a CD.
I can now elicit a bug check by opening and closing modules 4 or 5 times. Sometimes I don't get a bug check until I am closing windows, as mentioned by Krusher. On a seemingly unrelated issue which seguewayed to the Nero blue screens, I ended up working for 6 hours (!) with a terrific Microsoft tech support person who helped me painstakingly check for conflicting drivers but we never conclusively identifed anything. That's when we tried opening and closing Nero in Safe Mode and elicited a blue screen! I've also tested my RAM with memtest (nothing found), as well as by removing one of the two RAM modules to see if one of them was deficient. I could blue screen in either isolated module. For another reason, this past week I ended up zeroing my raid and installing windows xp home from scratch and downloaded all the sp1 critical updates. I also updated my BIOs, video and audio card driver. I did not load other programs aside from my antivirus, which I temporarily disable when running Nero. Yup...still can blue screen with Nero.
Last night I carefully completed the support form on Nero's site and included the bug check stop codes and their parameters, and I dutifully attached the dump file from the Nero Info Tool. Sure do hope they can pull a rabbit out the hat b/c I'm stumped. I'm holding off on other software loading until I can try to work through this with Nero support. (I've got my fingers crossed and hope they are more proactive than sending canned messages or just giving up...)

Do you use Nero's virtual cd which shows up in windows explorer as an additional cd-rom?

No - I don't set up or use virtual CD. I only installed the updates in what Nero refers to as Package 1 and Package 2

Cool Doug, I did the same thing last week and am waiting to hear back from Nero. I think they say their response time is 3 business days, whenever I hear I'll post back here...

I received a response and they sent me their cleaning tool, which essentially removes everything from nero (and who knows what else) and then you can reinstall nero. But I am a little leary in trying this clean too after seeing that some people have performed complete OS reinstalls to alleviate the problem to no avail.
Just was using nero, exited nero, did some other stuff, then moved over to MS Money and voila', there's the BSOD! Only, and did I say only!, this occurs when nero has ran at one time during a session. I only can wonder what it does when being ran, I am wondering if there is another product out there (beside Roxio which has the same troubles) that I can use...anyone with experience using the free burning software, cdburnerxp , or similar product? I've had it with nero!

I've yet to hear from NERO, but I've used the cleaning tool and driver conflict tools in the past w/o resolving the problem.
I am hopeful they do not try to suggest that to me - and I can't recall if I mentioned that in my support form message, but I did clarify that I had reformatted the drive and have a minimal install of other software so that I could attempt to resolve the problem.
Will post when I hear from them. I am using Nero for more than simple burning or ripping - I use the audio editing extensively, and also like to mix/fade songs....

Ok, I wanted to hold off until I posted this, but Nero has been running smoothly now ever since updating my Intel Raid drivers at:
Intel
Previously I had the default 3.0 version that is installed with XP. Ever since updating the driver, I haven't seen an error yet...keeping my fingers crossed!

Ditto!
On my last bug check - which had a slightly different code than previous errors- I again sent the error to Microsoft, but this time (after having sent about 10 previous blue screen reports) it came back with: "Solution Found: Contact Intel Corporation to obtain the update."
My computer is less than a year old, but I had gone through the time consuming process of finding, downloading (I have dial-up) and installing updated drivers for video card, Intel mobo chipset, sound card, and BIOS (that hiccupped during initial install and I ended up having to reload windows from scratch again). Never knew/thought of Intel raid driver (dunno, maybe I thought the chipset update would include the integraded raid). I also had v3.0 of raid driver. The new driver also seems to have done the trick - so far. I'm still a bit nervous when I open Nero. But I played with it for a couple of hours last weekend and no bug check. Now I need to spend more time learning how to better use Nero features like Soundtrak & wave editor! (I'm searching for Nero forums.)
FYI - the two responses I got from a Claudius person at Nero were worthless. I provided all that info. and the responses were templates essentially asking me to do what I'd already told them I did. I even called their expensive tech support line and let loose how disappointed I was in the emails I got; the phone person - Ismael - asked me to forward them to him along with the report tool and promised to get right back to me. A week has passed without hearing anything back. A day after calling and emailing him I found the aforementioned Intel solution. So much for Nero tech support.....
And in the FWIW dept: Just prior to discovering the updated raid driver solution I took the plunge, whilest I had minimal other software installed, and installed XP Sevice Pack 2 from CD. Installed without a hitch and so far computer is running fine. I disabled the built-in firewall b/c I have a third party AV w/firewall that has seemed to work well. Nero is good with SP2, and I've moved ahead with installed MS Office and other software.
Please holler if you have any recurrance of the problem.
Cheers,
-Doug

Nero causing Stop errors
Hello to people with Nero causing Stop errors (Blue Screen of Death). I have seen this several times and have fixed the problem by reducing the burn speed. Try reducing the burn speed down to say 24X. I have a DVD RW that burns CDs at 52X and ejects the disc too quickly. I tried re-installing Nero several times but still got Stop errors. The reduction in burn speed seems to be the trick. Good Luck - BlueDay (CompTIA A+ certified)
