Problem with Windows XP installation

Hi,

I recently bought a Windows XP Home Edition. And instead of a new installation, some how or rather, I got an upgraded installation. Hence, I still have my Windows98 around. So what should I do? Is it advisable to do a 'clean installation' or should I just leave it as it is?? If I'm to do a 'clean installation', how should I go about doing it?

Thanks
Dolfina

Windows XP

Here's something funny to know.

format your Hard drive, boot with Windows XP CD and install it. When installation ask you for an original Microsoft Windows CD.. give him your Windows XP Home Upgrade CD. An upgrade CD IS an original Windows CD. I've already tried this and it worked.

for booting from cd do as follows:
restart your pc
press the delete key several times and you should see your BIOS configurations.
change the boot priority (put your cd-rom before your hard disk).
exit and save changes.

insert your cd, restart your pc and it should work.

I'm able to boot with cd now.
however, after chosing the drive I wish to install, the comp says I'll have 2 os... i guess meaning that i will have both my old win98 & winXP on the same drive. so how??

pls advice... I'm afraid that i may take the wrong step, and my comp might crash...

thanx

Win98 - Winxp

If you leave your Windows 98 Installation on the hard drive.. you will hate 2 windows. If you format your hard drive before installing windows XP.. you will on ly have XP. I don't know if the upgrade installation of XP home offer formating hard drive.. if not, use a windows 98 boot floppy and format c:

It may be possible that format.com is not on your floppy.. you can find it in:

c:\windows\command
or
%cd%\win98
