Question any hints to get Wireless working after SP2?

I made the mistake of accepting the automatic Windows XP SP2 update this morning, and now I can't get my wireless to work on my laptop.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting Internet Explorer/wireless to work again? I have a Dell Inspiron 600 with the Centrino mobile technology -- an Intel Pro/Wireless LAN 2100 3A. I uninstalled SP2 and restored the system to last week so I'm running just Windows XP without the service pack, but the wireless still doesn't work. The wireless icon says the computer is connected at the same slow speed that I usually use, so that hasn't changed, but I can't get Internet Explorer to work with the wireless. And it's not an IE problem, because I can use dial up on the same computer and use IE.

I am running McAfee Personal Firewall Plus and Virus Scan, but when I disable this, the wireless still doesn't work. So installing SP2 changed something and I can't figure out what.

I saw on another listserv (that I couldn't figure out how to join) that someone else had the same problem but was able to connect by selecting the IP address manually. How do I do this?

And finally, how do i turn the blasted automatic updates off?

thanks for any hints

To stop auto updates
Click Start , click Control Panel , and then double-click System.
Click the Automatic Updates tab, and then click Turn off automatic updating. I want to update my computer manually.

Windows XP sp2 has built in wireless network controller

The Wireless Zero Configuration (Wireless Configuration in SP2) is
enabled by checking Let Windows Manage this Connection. The WZC Service is found in Administrative Tools/Services
Check and see if it checked and uncheck it

Sometimes what can happen is that Windows SP2 needs to make a "new" connection to all wireless networks that it sees. Try unplugging your router, waiting for 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in.
