Slow Loading of Windows XP!
I think I have a big problem that is preventing Windows XP from starting. It appears to take a long time starting up Windows XP, yet the mouse cursor moves like normal. The only thing I see is the background and nothing else.
I can open up the Task Manager, but I have to wait a little while after Windows XP starts before doing so. When I try to shut down the computer, a dialog box shows that Windows is trying to close explorer.exe.
Somehow, I think that something happened with explorer.exe. After having to turn off the computer and going through the whole restarting thing again and whatever (same result as above), I decided to see if explorer.exe was changed in any way (using Task Manager).
It didn't look like it was changed.
Somehow, something happened that caused this sort of problem. I looked all around the internet (using another computer), but never found what I'm looking for.
What I know is the following:
- The last person that used the problem computer was an older brother of mine. I noticed that he installed MVP Baseball 2004 on that computer (and installed the latest patch).
- I saw that he downloaded some game mods for that program.
- Before then, I also installed a computer game, 18 Wheels of Steel: Pedal to the Metal, and installed the latest patch for it.
- Before I got off the problem computer, I moved the game folder to another folder on the computer.
So what I don't know is what happened from the time my older brother was on that computer and the time I came home from work (which was just a few hours ago). The first time I found this problem out was when I started the computer. Either it crashed earlier, or it was turned off. I haven't been told what happened with it yet.
Now I guess I should give the computer specs then. Well, this is really all I know since it's my older brother's (I've got three older brothers, me being the youngest, in case you get confused) computer and he's been away for a couple of days now.
Computer specs (at least what I know of):
Windows XP Pro
Pentium 4 at least 1 ghz
ASUS Motherboard
nVidia Graphics Card
I'm not sure if anyone here has had the same problem as me, but I hope someone is around to help. x_x
