problem when reformating windows

I recently decided to just wipe my computer clean (was experiencing some major problems) and reinstall windows XP profesional.

I put in one of my music CD's and i thought that the sound is probably down. so i turned up my speaker volume all the way up, and still no sound. then i realized that the volume control icon in the taskbar by the clock wasn't there.

So my cpu right now has no sound what so ever.

I have re-installed windows xp 3 times since then and still no sound. So if anyone has any suggestions on why, i'd appritiate it.

My dad had this cpu custom built for me like a year ago, and he can't remember what type of sound card we have, so what's a way where I can find that out.

EDIT:

I went to control Pannel > System > Device Manager

there i found that i am using "Legacy Audio Drivers"

I found out that it is trying to access a folder on my "F:/..." drive. But since I Reformatted my cpu that drive is now "D:" instead of "F:"

If you got to www.belarc.com select products then select Belarc Advisor, download and install, then run it, it will give you a list of everything installed on your PC.
