XP system restore

Well, I screwed up. I changed a network setting trying to setup my home network, now I can't log onto my XP pro laptop. I want to get to system restore, but it's not taking my old userid/pwd. Please, someone tell me how to get to system restore w/out the password, or some other way to get my old settings back. thanks.

Try starting Windows in Safe Mode to restore your previous settings or create a new user so you can log in.

To start in safe mode hold F8 when the computer boots up, just before the windows logo comes up you should be holding it down then it brings up a menu where you can select safe mode.

Then do what rospider said.
