Lost 1st screen on start up

Oh dear - I seem to have fiddled with something and now when I switch on, the opening screen with the ram and bios details and stuff has gone missing. Win XP starts up OK, but the 1st screen I get is the black screen with the XP logo - it's just that if I run into a problem I fear that the lack of this information might be a problem.

Sorry if this is an old oft repeated question - I tried a search but really wasn't sure wht ot search for.

The info you can no longer see is still in the system otherwise it wouldn't run at all. What you are referring to is called the 'BIOS' , without which your PC is just an expensive doorstop.

Sounds like you've actually exited Windows using the 'hibernate' option, which shuts down Windows but when you restart it takes you straight to the login screen (no BIOS reporting). People often do this to speed up the time it usually takes Windows to load.
Not recommended as a permanent replacement for the normal shutdown method, but okay for occasional use.

But, I might be quite wrong in my diagnosis of your problem.
