Repetitive Windows Explorer failure
I have a computer that I'm working on that has a very unique and weird problem, one which I have not come across before.
It runs Windows XP Pro, and startup is fine and dandy. You get to the login screen and log in, still no problems. However, after Windows is almost done loading, you get an error message that Windows Explorer has caused an error and needs to shut down (with your general send report stuff.) After getting out of that, you have about four-ten seconds before you get the error again. Lather, rinse, etc. I don't know what's causing it, but I can still do most things (including, I believe, opening an Explorer window.)
Since I could do this, I downloaded and installed ad-aware, and ran it. The person using this computer is new, and the person before had loaded up the computer with all sorts of crap. I had over 2,000 items that ad-aware caught, most of it AdRotator and CoolWeb-something. I got rid of it all, but the problem persists. I was able to run a windows update (though it was not SP2.) We use Norten AntiVirus Corporate, and it isn't reporting any virus.
Turning off the error reporting feature, the desktop just 'refreshes' every three seconds.
The machine is a Nobilis (local company, I believe) Pentium III .797 GHz running Windows XP Professional. It has 192 MBs of RAM, and a 14GB hard drive.
Anyone have this problem before or can shed some light on it?
