Well... I haven't been back here in ages... but I figured that I should check back to see if anyone has followed my guide anymore...

I changed one bit though... about the prefetcher. There's actually no reason to delete the prefetch files, since Windows XP keeps a maximum of 127 entries, and automatically deletes old/obsolete entries.

I'm probably going to keep updating this guide from my webpage (the page needs some work... I know). It's easier for me to maintain, since I've posted this in several places, and editing all of them is getting difficult.

I should also put in the part about Service Pack 2... there's no reason not to run it now. You just need to do some prep work first.

Bad Bad Bug in XP.

Have very bad "SOMETHING" in XP. Spysweeper was damaged trying to remove it, said it was a Monitor with 94 traces and is a rootkit? hidden file. Had to reload sweeper and it still cannot remove. System restore page comes up blank anyway I try to open it, safe or not, says that some part of the program is now missing. System restore points are still being recorded however. Recycle bin icon shows but words "recycle bin" are no longer showing under icon and it will not open. Need to get in there and restore. I belive thats were the missing parts may be. Opening page has changed, cant get to start button unless in safe mode. Can get to desktop. Icons cannot be clicked on but have to be opened as file. Some softwear willnot load. Can only turn off PC by power swithch and strangely this causes no problems before or after, its like something has reset my on and off stettings and system starts up without having to be reset or anything. I offloaded some files onto disk for backup and now each time I start PC it shows I have files still waiting to be offloaded and the start bar will slide out but the second I hit something it will retract never to be seen again. Net browser will change to default for know good reason. Screen picture will show only if I show desk top icons otherwise goes white. Real Player favs are broken now. I cant add new favs, it says I need to type something in when something is typed in. About half my favs on bar are broken. Cant get to controle center save for safe mode. Anyhelp!
