xp user name change- not registry or user though

Hello,
I am trying to chance the name of a file (my name )
in c:/documents and settings.
It appears to be a system file and wil not let me change the name, (despite having renamed the user name and computer name) it appears that cookies use this name and not the computer name.
Does anyone know how to change this?

As you have discovered, changing the user account name in Control Panel>User Accounts is only a cosmetic change. Nothing is different as far as the operating system is concerned.

The only way to get done what I think you want to get done is to set up a new user account with the name you prefer, then transfer everything from the old account to the new.

Instructions for doing that are in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile. Although the old user profile isn't corrupted, the process is the same.
