memory for speedy photos in photoshop??

Hello,
I do lots of photo editing and am using windowsxp with photoshop, I have 448mb of ram. Some editing is rather slow. Does adding more ram make photo editing faster? i am using an AMD athlon 2200 processor, but i dont think that matters too much??
Why when editing pitures about 3mbs in size does it take so long? is it the graphics card (radeon igp 64mb)?

When it comes to photo editing and windows xp, The more the merrier. I was told to use at least 1GB Ram to edit photos!

I work on photos too in Photoshop 6.0. I have also ver. 7.0, but I uninstall it when I saw how slow it is. Only difference between these two versions is just a shell. Version 7 looks more XP, while 6 is simple as 98. By the way, I have 512 RAM, GeForce 5200 and Intel 1.5 MHz. Not such a fast PC...
You have enough of RAM and good processor, so it's just your software and MAYBE graphic card...
