XP Pro Startup

I'm running XP pro SP2.
The problem I'm having is when XP boots up (desktop is displayed and the windows theme plays) I can't open any applications, connect to the internet for at least 1 minute.
My system tray is empty except for the printer icon.
Once the 1 min is up my firewall (zonealarm), antivirus (norton) loads. For that 1 min my hard drive light is not even flashing. If I double click an icon it won't load until the 1 min or so is up.
I changed my startup (msconfig-> startup) to only load my firewall and antivirus and disabled all of the other "stuff" to no avail.
Any suggestions?????????

Check for viruses spyware. Load system restore. Has this always happened?

I'm running Norton 2004 w/ live update.
This happened after I got the sasser worm, I got rid of the worm with the windows updates but some effects of it must still be here.
How can I tell if it's completely gone?
I have run the spybot search and destroy (for spyware) and "fixed" everything that look like it shouldn't be there.
Is there better software to check for spyware?

those are all the good ones.
Also one anti-virus isn't enough. It can get infected and other stuff.
