Error message when opening printer driver exe file

I have downloaded from www.hp.com the PCL5 printer driver (lj631en.exe) for a Laserjet 4M (Win XP Home version) to my PC but when I try to run it I get the following error ....

"16 Bit Windows subsystem: c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and MS Windows applications. Choose Close to terminate the application"

There are Close and Ignore buttons underneath, choosing either just closes the error box. Any ideas please?

The autoexec.nt file may be corrupted or missing from C:\Windows\system32\

You should find a clean copy of this file in C:\windows\repair
so copy and paste it into C:\windows\system32

hopefully that should do the trick.

Pip22

There was no autoexec.nt in the system32 folder at all so I copied as you suggested and was able to run the EXE file.

Many thanks
